Olivier Coste Rose 2019

Oh so refreshing. It's dry but with a sense of sweet citrus. There are murmurings of blackcurrant and white peach and pear drop, and that tantalising lavender-fazing-into-thyme which trips the light fantastic across the nostril hairs. This is measured, unmitigated pleasure from first drop to last. Supremely elegant, with good texture but it's as refreshing as a sea breeze. You don't really feel alcohol. You don't feel anything sticking out; just a beautiful, charming, slightly lavender-scented, minerally current of easy pleasure. This is all down that elusive wine quality: balance. Drink with: A sunny day. Everything else is a footnote.

A A Badenhorst Secateurs Rose 2019

The nose is entrancingly pretty with raspberries, wild roses and a hint of spearmint. On the palate citrus-macerated strawberries dance along the tongue interlaced with cranberries, redcurrants and a white pepper spice. Adi's Secateurs Rosé is definitely on the light, delicate side, so liberally quaffing it on its own, as an aperitif, is positively encouraged. If it is going to be paired with food, though, crustacea would have to be top of the list of options. A small mountain of garlicky prawns and naught else but a good supply of napkins would be very close to a dictionary definition of happiness. If you're feeling more sophisticated, a cold salad of lobster and mango would harmonise like a chord with this wine.

Domaine Terre de Mistral 'Rosalie' Sainte Victoire, Cotes de Provence 2019

There’s a blackcurrant, almost menthol/lavender fruitiness that jumps out of the glass and transports you to a flower-bedecked terrace on the Cote d'Azur where you're eating fistfuls of olives and mindlessly following the flight of a busy little bee. White peach, pear drop, and white and tart red berry notes tingle the taste buds. Good body, but crisp, bright and quintessentially Provencal. "We had our first bottle last night and I can tell you we were delighted. As an enthusiastic amateur I would say it is every bit as good as the now famous Whispering Angel which at £17 a pop looks a bit like cashing in on fashion."

La Calcinara Mun Rose 2018

"Orange pink. Flinty complex aromas and flavors of quinine, orange liqueur, apricot peel, apple jelly and redcurrant. Harmonious acidity provides lively cut and extends the ginger-accented flavors on the long vibrant and tactile back end. Super Rosato that boasts a ton of flavor." Ian D'Agata 92 pts.

Pinot Noir Rose Stefan Winter 2019

Pale salmon pink in colour and bursting with ripe pink fruits on the nose and a subtle yet uplifting herbaceous note. It capers nimbly on the palate with rhubarb fool, nectarine and red apple flavours enlivened by a bright thread of citrus fruit that weaves through it. Dry, smooth and supple, it impresses by how much Pinot Noir character it retains, which can often be lost in a rosé, and is at once bracing and delicate - a clever trick that makes this wine so appealing. The purity and weight of the fruit mean that it can afford to be fruity yet dry, so that it is both refreshing and juicy. There's a cool stream of typical northern European acidity running through it, which acts to revivify the palate for the next sip, which can't come soon enough. Delicious with a pint of prawns and lemon mayonnaise or a smoked chicken salad.

Domaine de l'Horizon Rose 2017

Made from extremely low-yielding Grenache grown on slate. Restrained, mineral, pure and ethereal. The texture is mesmerising, with the sort of nuance one would expect from a top Burgundy. This is very far from being a rosé for rosé’s sake, and the Grenache is simply a medium for highlighting the terroir – a job it does perfectly. Possibly the best rosé I have tried in my life. Very pale salmon colour, bone-dry in style with concentration and elegance.
