For Swiggers who love sauvignon blanc who might baulk at paying the premium expected for Pouilly-Fumé or Sancerre, or the more premium end of Kiwi sauvignon, Horgelus' sauvignon/gros manseng is the answer to your unspoken prayers. The gros manseng gives it that extra depth of flavour and an added exotic note, while the zingy gooseberry and passionfruit character of Gascon sauvignon blanc is there in superabundance.

In this vintage the elderflower comes through and the fruit has tremendous energy. It’s quite fantastic, and the best combination with smoked salmon (or trout) I’ve had this year.

Forget Cloudy Bay, forget Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre, this Horgelus Sauvignon/Gros Manseng blend costs half the price and delivers as much. Bright, lifted notes of lemon and lime, melon and grapefruit and a delicate herbaceous character. The Sauvignon Blanc element brings a classic gooseberry and elderflower zip, while the Gros Manseng gives a gorgeous tropical fruit depth. Endlessly quaffable.
