Even winemaker, Nicola Ferrari, who is not one to blow his own trumpet, says the Ripasso 2016 is his best yet. This is truly beautiful Italian wine - – elegant, perfumed, lovely strawberry, cherry fruit that floats in the mouth with savoury earthy notes and a hint of that magical aroma of fine Amarone.

Tasting Notes

The most complete Ripasso Nicola has made yet and is probably one of the best expressions of the classical style today. The fruit floats in the mouth with the wee hint of bitterness that comes from the process soaking the wine on the skins of the just fermented Amarone grapes that adds just the right amount of tension and intrigue. While not being a big wine, there is plenty of flavour and complexity. It is wonderful now and one of my favourite drinks. But it will be super to drink over the next 3 to 6 years and a good value wine for cellaring. Probably it will be excellent in 7 to 9 years from now, but I would drink most of it sooner. This is truly beautiful Italian wine – elegant, perfumed, lovely strawberry, cherry fruit with savoury earthy notes and a hint of that magical aroma of fine Amarone.

Press Note:

jancisrobinson.com: Mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Spicy, savoury cherry nose and nothing of that overblown Mon Chéri cherry-liqueur chocolates stuff that most ripassos are. Salty, minerally fruit with a touch of passito dried-cherry fruit. Dusty, powdery tannins on the finish. Needs and deserves food. (WS) 14.5% Drink 2018-2024. 17 points

Robin's Note:

One of my favourite wines in our range. I am always captivated by Monte Santoccio's Ripasso, that has finesse with complexity, fruit but too much, but enough, with a lovely delicate hint of bitterness.
