I love this wine for its elegance and lightness but take another sip and you notice the depth and complexity. The nose is captivating. It is pretty and perfumed with the tantalizing bitter-sweet aromas of Amarone in the background. But you never get the weight of Amarone, which makes this such a pleasure to drink with any meal. There is a hint of chocolate, but also berry and cherry. The palate is bright, elegant, pure and long. The 2014 is a touch sweeter on the nose than 2013 and more open and ready to drink.


Tasting Notes

This is a wine made from the same grapes as Amarone, It has been passed over the pressed, dried grape skins of the Amarone and it ferments again, adding flavour and depth. It is important to note that it’s not a baby Amarone. Some Ripasso are made with dried grapes from a region East of Valpolicella to satisfy commercial requirements and demands and may be tasty, but this is made in the time-honoured traditional way that makes it lighter, more elegant and age worthy. This vintage is drinking well now and it should age very nicely for 6 to 10 years. 14% alc. Enjoy it with risotto with asparagus, broad beans, pasta with light meat ragu, light meats such as chicken or rabbit with herbs. You can have this bottle open for 2 or 3 days – becoming deeper and even more delicious with opening.
