Ripe, fleshy blueberry and plum fruit. Tastes stately, with finesse, and lovely oak but definitely not too much. This is a wine with an impressive structure where spiced dark fruit is held together by a balanced acidity. Full-bodied with soft sweet tannins and a long finish. The sensation is one of a full-bodied, smooth wine but with really good flavour.


Tasting Notes

We're often asked which wine region of the world offers the best value. These days, it really has to be Spain: rich winemaking heritage, a huge diversity of terroir, loads of gnarly old vines with the potential to produce high-quality fruit, a surfeit of interesting grape varieties, and relatively cheap land and production costs. This wine with its slightly silly-sounding name but quite serious levels of structure and complex flavour, is a prime example of the amazing value Spain offers - a wine whose depth, complexity and character would inevitably come with a heftier price tag was it to be made practically anywhere else in the world. Produced from estate fruit from Familia Bastida's Castilla La Mancha property, where the soil consists of a mixture of clay and sand with a high concentration of rocky limestone. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented with indigenous yeast. Titos is aged for 11 months in American and French oak casks and two months in the bottle before release. I am incredibly impressed by what the family Bastida is doing in the vineyards and cellars. They are modernising but employing all of the techniques and equipment of the artisan movement. In a way, this is is a great reflection of competition and the way that smaller producers can lead bigger ones to up their game. Bravo!
