"Such good value, I almost fell out of my chair" – Robin Davis. Yep, Spain really is a wellspring of vinous bargains these days: rich winemaking heritage, check; huge diversity of terroir, check; loads of gnarly old vines with the potential to produce high-quality fruit, plenty of interesting grape varieties, cheap land and production costs – check, check, checkeroo. This wine, with its quite serious structure and complex, oak-spiced dark berry fruit profile, is a prime example of the amazing value Spain offers, a wine whose charms would inevitably come with a heftier price tag were it made practically anywhere else in the world.

Tasting Notes

We're often asked which wine region of the world offers the best value. These days, it really has to be Spain: rich winemaking heritage, a huge diversity of terroir, loads of gnarly old vines with the potential to produce high-quality fruit, a surfeit of interesting grape varieties, and relatively cheap land and production costs. This wine with its slightly silly-sounding name but quite serious levels of structure and complex flavour, is a prime example of the amazing value Spain offers - a wine whose depth, complexity and character would inevitably come with a heftier price tag was it to be made practically anywhere else in the world. Produced from estate fruit from Familia Bastida's Castilla La Mancha property, where the soil consists of a mixture of clay and sand with a high concentration of rocky limestone. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented with indigenous yeast. Titos is aged for 11 months in American and French oak casks and two months in the bottle before release. I am incredibly impressed by what the family Bastida is doing in the vineyards and cellars. They are modernising but employing all of the techniques and equipment of the artisan movement. In a way, this is is a great reflection of competition and the way that smaller producers can lead bigger ones to up their game. Bravo!

Press Note:

"Produced in the heartland of Don Quixote’s Castilla La Mancha, this has to be one of the best value reds from Spain. Garnacha is the Spanish equivalent of Grenache, the mainstay of southern Rhone wines and it has the same intense solid framework. It is extraordinary to find a wine of this quality for the price. The grapes are hand-picked and fermented with local yeasts and kept in American and French oak barrels for nearly a year. There is nothing modest about this wine, which can be enjoyed with any full-flavoured dish." Bruce Palling, The Week

Customer Comments:

"Titos Garnacha we enjoyed our first bottle with a garlicky shoulder of roast lamb. The pairing was a great success and on reconsideration your prose seemed hardly purple at all. Nice to think we have another 11 bottles waiting for us downstairs. Well done, SWIG!"
