Lemongrass, grapefruits, white lillies, hints of honey and white peach notes. The acidity is long and fine, giving a refreshing length to the wine. Barrel ferment Sauvignon has such a charm to it, and the Semillon is just beginning to assert itself. Beautifully composed with a generous and ambrosial palate.

Tasting Notes

A few words from winemaker Carl: "We aim to work with vineyards that inspire a sense of wonder and apprecation. To work with varieties that suit the growing region of Stellenbosch, producing a wine that is delicately balanced and very drinkable. Finesse and drinkability trumps power and heavy expression. Carefully made wines that are delicious, moderate in alcohol and mood lifting, enhancing the gastronomic experience and having fun whilst making great wine." The fruit for the white is selected from mountain vineyards. Wild, extreme sites that are exposed to the elements - hot sun and strong winds, producing top quality fruit showing fabulous concentration. 62% Sauvignon Blanc, 28% Semillon, 10% Chenin Blanc

Press Note:

Julia Harding MW ( 17 points: "Herbal and leafy on the nose, cassis-leaf and bud. Intense, concentrated but full of life. The oak lifts rather than suppresses the fruit. Deep, spicy and very, very long. Sauvignon Blanc/Sémillon/Chenin Blanc. This is the personal project of Carl van der Merwe, winemaker at DeMorgenzon, in partnership with the owner of DeMorgenzon." Greg Sherwood MW, 92+/100: "There is plenty of lifted aromatics and grassy lime peel, lemon grass, and dusty white peach stone fruit. The palate is full and textural, one of Carl’s winemaking signatures, with lovely round harmonious, fleshy, creamy mouthfeel. This wine has impressive gravitas for its price point and a complex, spicy granitic mineral finish with great lucidity." Neal Martin: The debut 2015 The Great White, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Chenin Blanc, has a pretty bouquet with lime flower and red apple scents, a touch of yellow flower and cold rock. The palate is fresh on the entry with great balance and poise, the acidity nicely judged with pure white peach, nectarine and saline notes towards the satisfying long finish. This is well worth seeking out, although only available in South Africa at the moment.

Customer Comments:

'Just to say the last two wines that you guys have sourced (Great white and Fleur d P) have been exceptional and a real pleasure to share with friends. Fantastic value for money and punching way above their weight in those price brackets! The team’s efforts and whole service are hugely appreciated.' Jon G
