A palate that reads like a fancy cocktail: blueberry, blackberry, red cherry, cranberry are layered with juniper, dried rosemary & lavender, thyme and rosehip. This delicious fruit salad is grounded by white pepper, sour cherry, dried cherry and dried fig. So elevated, light and elegant, bright and perfumed and crisp and floral on the palate.

Tasting Notes

Heard of Ruche before? No, me neither but it is definitely one of Italy's hidden gems. Those that whisper behind closed doors suggest that Ruche originated in France but nowadays Piedmont is firmly it's home. Famed for it's red berries, perfumed character and earthy peppery notes Ruche is somewhere between Syrah and Nebbiolo and it thrives in the loose limestone rich soils of the Bric d'Bianc vineyard whose altitude and southwest exposure help highlight the grapes natural elegance. Ruche has remained in relative obscurity but Luca Ferraris and his 28 other Ruche-growing neighbours have decided to finally share their secret with the world. Originally funded by a great grandfather who found gold in the US, the vineyard has been in the family since 1921 with modernisation and commercialisation only beginning in 2009 under Luca's influence. However modernisation is not the only buzz word of the day with Luca remaining dedicated to sustainable farming and passing down the skills he learned from his grandparents. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in large oak barrels marrying old and new techniques to extract only the best flavours from this underappreciated, often forgotten, brilliant quality wine.
