'Killer' (Rajat Parr), 'Stunner' (Jamie Goode), 'Unmissable' (Richard Hemming) - the inaugural 2014 vintage of Jamie Kutch's Chardonnay was a unanimous, Coche-Dury referencing success. All critics were agreed that the man nailed it, producing a flinty, cool Sonoma Coast Chardonnay that hit all the right notes and then came on for a couple of encores and played them all perfectly again. Here we have the 2015 and, by the beard of Zeus, he's done it again. Huge scores and avalanche of superlatives from critics; his reputation as the best Chardonnay producer in California more or less assured; and the wine itself - quite possibly flawless. What can one say? Clearly, whether it's Pinot or Chardonnay, Jamie Kutch is a winemaker to be reckoned with. This is electrifying Chardy. Yields were markedly low in Sonoma in 2015, so, as you can imagine, supplies are very limited, but it's worth going that extra mile for. In Cali terms, it's a pretty much in a league of its own.

Press Note:

Kutch Chardonnay 2015 Sonoma Coast, California 12.7% alcohol "Very fine, lemony and assertive on the nose, with delicate matchstick notes from nice reduction. The palate is linear and precise with really tight, lean, but full flavoured lemon notes. It’s beautifully taut and expressive with keen acidity that’s struggling a bit to integrate now, but which will in time. This is so pristine and taut and offers lots of promise for the future, but it’s also edgy and enjoyable now if you like this reductive style. I love it. 95/100" - Jamie Goode, Anorak The 2015 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) is rich, textured and impeccably beautiful. Apricot pit, peach, chamomile and wild flowers are some of the signatures in this strikingly beautiful expressive Chardonnay from Jamie Kutch. The purity of the fruit is striking, even in this slightly unsettled state just prior to bottling. The 2015 is a bit less reductive in style than the 2014, and also more inline stylistically with the Pinots than the 2014 was. "I’m quite a fan of the wines of Jamie Kutch. This is the first release of his Chardonnay and he has completely nailed it. It will be hard to find, but it’s worth seeking out." Jamie Goode on the 2014 2014 Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains Eric Asimov - New York Times Wine Critic "One of the best California Chardonnay's I have in a long time, textured, harmonious, long and minerality." Jamie Goode - British Wine Critic "Totally amazing Oh My God! Brilliant work from Jamie. Superb." John Gilman - View From the Cellar, American Wine Critic "Loving Jamie Kutch's first Chardonnay - pure, nicely reserved & wound up nicely to age with a stylistic nod to Coche." Richard Hemming - Master of Wine & contributor for Jancis Robinson "Unmissable: first vintage of Kutch Chardonnay." Winemaker Brief A blend of two vineyards from the Santa Cruz Mountains. Trout Gulch and Zayante. 20% new French oak, the balance all 4x used French oak. Barrel fermented. 18 months total élevage.
