Tasting Notes

I remember reading an educational article about wine production, and their section on the biodynamic approach couldn't have been more blatantly scathing if they tried. I recall the term ‘highly spiritual and rather intangible’ particularly well, along with a liberal use of inverted commas, to further express their cynicism - it gave me a good chuckle! This wine, I feel, is evidence enough that not everyone working under a biodynamic philosophy are bonkers washed-up hippies, obsessed with the cosmos, who bury various manure-filled animal entrails at the full moon, while playing Beethoven’s Ode to Joy to the vines... barefoot. In fact, it is a practice that is becoming more and more widespread, and many ‘big names’ across the winemaking world have adopted it. And even if they were all bonkers washed up hippies, etc., who cares when it tastes like this? A serious wine, classy and refined with a touch of rusticity. Bursting with vibrant fruit, it has a great depth of character ready to be explored. The nose speaks to me of bramble, juicy blueberries and black cherries, dusted in icing sugar and cocoa powder. Cinnamon and aniseed, evident on the nose but coming to the fore on the palate, give the whole flavor experience a lift. A cacophony of explosively juicy fruit already hinted at on the nose bursts forth with extra vigour now. Perhaps my favourite element is a cheeky hint of rosemary and sage, lending a delightful savoury character to the mix and giving the wine its definition and refinement. 13.5%. Drink now - 2020
