An insider tip from a top Pomerol estate that comes from their winemaker's own vineyard in St Emilion This is fine mature Grand Cru St Emilion. Winemaker, Christian Veyry, was trained by Olivier Berrouet (winemaker for many years of Pétrus and Dominus) – maker of the best Merlots in the world. Christian has gone on to work with Michel Rolland and now consults for some of of the best Chateaux in Bordeaux. Posseses the flavour and silkiness of fine St Emilion or Pomerol, with hints of game, graphite, a touch of cedar and lovely pure fruit. It's a very well poised wine; fine boned and precise, not big, and very well proportioned. You could say it is classically proportioned Bordeaux - put very pure - which is what you get from a top winemaker. The flavours developed over several days, suggesting that this is a wine that can not only be drunk now but one which will also age for about another 8 years. It represents outstanding value.

Tasting Notes

Estate-owned by Christian Veyry, consultant-oenologist part of Michel Rolland’s team – 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and aged for 25% in new oak

Robin's Note:

I like this as it's maturing, but still has a way to go, but if you let it breathe in a decanter (and you can come back to it a couple of days later) it delivers really fine gamey, graphite, right bank characteristics, but with real purity. It's got a classic line. It's made by a winemaker who has a hand in making some of bordeaux's best wines and this is his own family property to the east of the village of St Emilion. It will age until 2022 or so. I drank a fine and beautiful Petit Village Pomerol 1988 just a few days before trying Louvie for the first time and although Louvie doesn't have the same dimension and depth of the great Petit Village the flavour profile was not unsimilar. Plenty of wine for the money here. Drink with roast beef, lamb, pheasant....
