Young and feisty Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated claret, which needs a big juicy steak. Highly recommended Bordeaux 2009 (Decanter)

Tasting Notes

You probably wouldn’t order a smoothie if it said it contained blackcurrants, liquorice, nutmeg, pencil shavings, ink and graphite, no matter how whimsically they tried to package it, but this tasty claret gets away with advertising itself like that, because we are obliged to rely on analogies to convey the flavours of a wine. If we took the smoothie approach, every tasting note would just say ‘made with grapes’. The effects of 2009’s perfect growing season show through in the plush, velvety texture and aromatic expression of this young claret. It is a wine to lay down for a couple of years (although you could drink it now with a char-grilled steak), but we suggest waiting until 2016 and drinking it with a Sunday roast. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. 14% alc. Drink 2016-2024

Press Note:

Decanter: "Lovely ripe black fruit and smoke bouquet showing plenty of weight and richness. Mouthfilling plum and blackcurrant flavours with a firmly oaked base. Very showy - a crowd-pleaser" **** 4 Stars (89 points) The Wine Advocate: "Elegant, with loads of black currant fruit, cherries and dusty, loamy soil notes as well as hints of tobacco leaf, spice box and cedar, it is a medium to full-bodied, nicely textured, fleshy wine that should drink nicely for 10-15+ years" 90 points
