Considered a Grand Cru of the commune of La Morra. It’s completely South facing and is typically the fullest and ripest tasting of Renato Corino’s wines. It’s usually delicious when young, but this is a bit more reticent and closed than in some years. I think that’s no bad thing and a reflection of using less new oak than normal. It will develop in complexity and richness over the years. It really does need another 4 or 5 years to open up, but it’s special and a great wine from Renato, from this excellent vintage.

Tasting Notes

A beautifully textured red, from one of the most renowned Barolo years, demonstrating more finely grained tannins. The palate is enveloped in dark aromatic fruits, from bramble to cassis and herbal notes such as lavendar and rosemary. With silky smooth mouthfeel and perfect balance, this is a wine that will age incredibly well. Drink 2021-2035 Considered a Grand Cru of the commune of La Morra. Representing one of our longest-standing relationships in Italy, the wines of Renato Corino have delighted Swig and its customers for over a decade. Renato set out on his own from the family winery in 2003 (under good terms, you understand – his brother helped him with his first vintage). He had his own ideas on how to make great Barolo in La Morra, and wanted to show the world. A mix of modern techniques in the winery and traditional care of the vines yields up Barolos that are more approachable than many of their brethren, but also stand the test of time. There is often a wild, rich intensity to them that you don’t see in Renato’s brother’s estate (called Corino as well). Renato has some of the finest sites in La Morra in the heart of Barolo.

Press Note:

Antonio Galloni (vinous.com) 94+ points: "The 2013 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is fabulous. Knock-out aromatics, silky tannins and voluptuous fruit are some of the signatures. This is another young Barolo that is drinking almost too well for such a young wine. Today, the flavors are quite primary and the wine is dense, but there is certainly a lot to look forward to. The tannins are present, yet very nicely integrated for a young Barolo. This is a terrific Barolo in the making. Drink 2020-2033" Wine Spectator, 94 points “This is full of sweet cherry, plum, leather and licorice flavors, accented by eucalyptus and chalky, stony elements. A mouthful of powerful, ripe tannins coats the mouth pleasantly, as the woodsy, wild herb notes persist. Best from 2023 through 2042." Bruce Sanderson
