A firm favourite with Swiggers and with top critics such as Jancis Robinson and Matthew Jukes, this Cape Bordeaux blend might just be the greatest creation since sliced bread. Or at least since the Turkey Feast sandwich. Without doubt one of the best-value South African wines on the market too. The bright, pure fruit has a compelling chocolatey, earthy richness to it. Candied orange dipped in dark chocolate, a hint of menthol and a lovely warm earthiness - think sunbaked earth and terracota pots with juicy autumn blackberries. It would work splendidly with a classic rosemary-studded shoulder of lamb.

Tasting Notes

All welcome the Alphabetical Wine Co! A deep purple in the glass, there's something undeniably juicy, bitter sweet chocolatey and clove studded fruit laden about this. Dark chocolate dipped orange, a hint of menthol with a lovely warm earthiness- think sunbaked earth and terracota pots with juicy Autumn blackberries. It would work splendidly with a grilled Barnsley chop cooked with rosemary and some whole baked garlic cloves. A great take on a Cape style Bordeaux blend. A wine made from pretty damned good grapes grown in the harsh but beautiful winelands of the Western Cape, an area where the winemakers surf and the surfers make wine. Unlimited by set varietal or single origin snobbery, we decided to get the best fruit from two areas, one hot and dry that produces rich, ripe fruit; the other slightly cooler that produce dark, intense flavours. With quality this good, it was hard to choose what to leave out. So we decided to include all of it. The result is a wine made from er, many varietals. How many?? Well let's just say someone once joked "it's almost the whole alphabet!"

Press Note:

Jancis Robinson MW: "Cape Bordeaux blend. Very bright fruit and well balanced. Such purity and confidence! Drink now-2020" "Made by David Cope and Simon Wibberley this is one of the most ebullient and exciting new reds in the Cape. The recipe is 36% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from Stellenbosch added to 9% each of Shiraz, Merlot and Petit Verdot from Stellenbosch and Swartland. It is a stunner! Matthew Jukes, The Daily Mail
