A delicious 100% Macabeo from Carinena
Still one of our best ever discoveries! Consistently joyful and delicious!
A delightful wine - with gentle aromatics and the lovely peachiness of Rolle (aka Vermentino) with Riesling, Pinot Gris, from the Cevennes. 13% alc.
Winemakers Tasting Note: ‘Fresh and fruity aroma with hints of peaches, citrus and apples. In the mouth the flavour is intense and rich, with cigar accent, creamy tones and smoke. The taste is supple, with excellent structure, good body and lasting sensation of disitinctive freshness. Long and fragrant finish.’
Forget every preconception you ever had about Pinot Grigio and get stuck into this beauty! Where your typical PG is thin, this has some fruit weight; where PG has simple lemon and green apple character, this delivers that PLUS lemon zest, grapefruit, ripe pear and apple blossom. Essentially, this is the holy grail - a great value, characterful, fun PG expressing the prosaic grape to its full and surprising potential.
Unoaked, but lovely creamy does-everything Chardonnay! Gentle round mouth feel and a brilliant go to Summer pour that is sure to put a smile on everyone's face. Pair with BBQ halloumi skewers drizzled with lemon dressing, summery salads, chargrilled monkfish or grilled chicken.
A delightful wine - Rolle (aka Vermentino) with Riesling and Pinot Gris, from the Gardon foothills in Cevennes. A little bit spicy and textured, but with lovely freshness thanks to the cool nights and exposure the vineyards have. A little bit exotic and a lot of bang for your buck!
From Germany's most exciting new Riesling producer. Gentle floral nose with stone fruits. This is fruity yet completely dry tasting. Fabulous as a glass of wine with just about anything.
On the nose - what fun! Bright and juicy, bursting with pineapple, saturn peaches, ripe apples and a squeeze of lime. There is a soft oaty texture, with some clean, earthy notes, a hint of mint stem, orange blossom and peach tang The finish is long, fulfilling and ripe. 13% - drink from as soon as we deliver – 4 years.
Utterly scrumptious. Our all-time favourite white.
Simple, fresh, delightful. The type of wine you can keep pouring and let the good times roll...
Lovely fleshy tropical notes, just a hint of citrus and some cooling minerality. Light and easy-going.
Gone are the days of thin, inspid Italian whites. This is super vibrant, brimming with sun ripened orchard fruits. Dried mango, peach and green apple jump out of the glass, and the perfectly balanced acidity entices you back for another sip. And another.....
A white wine made from a red grape?! Tell me more! This is made from Pinot Noir and will be a big hit with anyone who likes aromatic whites.
Fabulous aromas of turkish delight and exotic fruits. Good Gewurz has plenty of fruit, aromatics and flavour, is luscious but not over the top, and finishes dry. Zinck absolutely nails it, making it one of the most satisfying wines money can buy. Makes a wonderful aperitif.
Hungary's sweet Tokaji may be what put it on the map, but their dry whites are well worth a look in as well. A fiendish Furmint blend with tangy fruit and a rich, mellow palate.
An absolutely delightful blend of 60% Moscato, with Malvasia and Fiano from Cilento. The team at Cantine Barone are dedicated to protecting and showcasing the quality of local grape varieties.
There is a hint of Viognier about it, with lovely vibrant aromatics, orangey fruit, a good texture but not weighty, with a good crisp, dry finish. It's perfect for crossing the divide, between those who don't like Chardonnay and those who don't like Sauvignon, yet far more interesting than Picpoul or Pinot Grigio. We love it.
Although drinking beautifully at present, with a complex array of tropical fruit, grapefruit and limes on the palate, do try to exercise patience, as it will only improve in the next 3-5 years! The palate is focused and racy, made in a style to be a wonderful food companion.
Lots of fruit and freshness - more generous than their Chablis with palate cleansing acidity and a wet stone finish.
Bright light lemon zest and pith with wet stone, a touch of cheese rind and chalk dust on the nose. A fresh, cool summer’s morning. The palate is crisp; bracing; Sancerre-like in its energy.
Electric citrus running over stones with a hint of creaminess to it. This is that sort of jolting, vibrant white that thrills on the palate – light, brilliant bottled sunshine. Invigorating. Classic in style - this wine embodies the focused minerality of the Kimmeridgian soil. 13% Drink now – 2017
Luxurious blend of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc from the Languedoc. Extraordinary quality for the money.
Classic Chablis - one of the most famous expressions of Chardonnay from a consistently brilliant producer who tends his old vines year round to produce excellent fruit.
Oh Riesling, you never fail to bring us joy. Lipsmacking peach and apricot and sweet lime. Such energy and juice factor - dry yet luscious with a stony minerality and long finish.
Its deceptive lack of colour in the glass betrays a punchy, aromatic wine. Oodles of elderflower and gooseberry on the nose with an almost spicy tomato leaf end note. This gives way to riper gooseberry and citrus on the palate, edged with minerality and rounded off by a beautiful acidity. Great with goats cheese salad or seafood risotto. 13.5%
Like your curiosities? Here's a Jurancon Sec that delivers a flavour sensation while making you look seriously clued-up on your niche wine styles...
A Bordeaux Grand Vin Blanc Sec, made from Semillon in the Sauternes area.
Pure fruit flavours of crisp apple, ripe pear and zesty grapefruit are underpinned by a backbone of slatey minerality.
Tinned pineapple, honeycomb and tuckshop blackjacks. Just a hint of vanilla on the nose. Fresher on the palate, but gets headier in the glass with time. Spiced baked fruits and cinnamon finish.
Classy Tuscan white made from Chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon.
Lemongrass, grapefruits, white lillies, hints of honey and white peach notes. The acidity is long and fine, giving a refreshing length to the wine.
From one 2 HA vineyard, 100% Furmint barrel fermented and aged in oak.
This is gorgeous wine that totally delivers the white burgundy experience we crave. Rich smooth rich yet elegant style. The oak is delicious and has integrated with the fruit beautifully. Super impressive.
From the winner of the best young winemaker in Burgundy. “A treasure trove”… ‘Readers disowning white Burgundy because of prices…should really stock up on these wines” Neal Martin. Peaches and cream with a hint of nutmeg and orange flower water. Soft; gentle; inviting. The palate is a joyous mix of generous ripe, fleshy, white fruits – peach and nectarine, with hints of spice and Chantilly cream, all held tight with a perfectly balanced lemon sorbet acidity, that grips and checks that fleshiness, providing a racy, mineral freshness. It’s a beautifully poised Burgundy. Perfect for a lobster, scallops, roast chicken… or just sitting in the sun on with a bottle and good friends. 13% drink now – 2018
A fan of good sherry? Then you must try this incredible Tokaji Szamorodni. Directly translating as "as it comes" - both botrytised and ripe fruit are picked and fermented together. One for the wine geeks and the curious.
The Il Famoso grape is (ironically) rather rare. There are only around 12 hectares of the vine were known about in Emilia-Romagna, and another four in the Marches, planted by Bruscia. Stylistically the wine has similarities to Greco di Tufo and Viognier, although not as floral.
Classic Fiano nose - tropical and floral nose, generous in its fleshiness but with a mineral edge.....the volcanical soils shining through.
Hinterhofkabuff means backyard shack in Afrikaans. This wine was inspired by an interviewer who described Pieter Walser's office as that exact phrase - a shack! Not wanting to draw attention to this faux pas Pieter named a wine after it ... The wine itself is made from Riesling and has an incredibly pretty floral nose with a more savoury stone fruit and spiced citrus palate
31% Chenin, 30% Chardonnay, 30% SB and 9% Viognier
'Citrus and freshness, though a touch more Sauvignon vivacity. Lots of juiciness, lots of juicy peach brightness from the Viognier' Tom Cannavan, Wine-Pages.com
Wonderful Gavi made by a top winemaker!
From grapes sourced in the Kenton Valley, this is just one exampe of what these guys can do with Chardonnay.
A quirky, partial skin contact white from the volcanic soils of Tenerife! Made from local grape varieties, harvested from a mix-planted vineyard (from which the wine takes the name Taganan); some are yet to be identified!
Rhone - esque - waxy, textured and with lilacs and sunkissed apricots on the nose. Good weight on the mid palate, with well calculated acidity and a long finish.
Max 3 bottles per customer
A touch more tightly woven than the '13 at present, but pure class. Great purity of fruit, apple, pear and sweet citrus. There’s a hint of honeysuckle and ripe segments of tangerine The racy acidity lifts the palate beautifully – lightening the many textures and enhancing the freshness of the wine.
65% Chenin Blanc, 13% Chardonnay, 17% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Viognier
Made by Aussie Erin Pooley this is Hunter Valley Semillon from California that made the Swig team swoon with delight! Lots of green pear, geranium and mandarin on the nose with citrus and an amazingly unctuous body on the palate. Scrummy!
We absolutely adore this wine, which is a good substitute for white burgundy when you want something a bit different an frankly more intriguing for the price. Fabulous concentrated fruit; apples, quince, excellent texture and length. Yum. Oh yes, 2014 was a cracking vintage for Loire Chenin Blanc.
