Domaine Castera Jurancon 2015 (sweet) half 37.5

This sweet and sticky delight is perfectly balanced and packed full of stone fruit goodness. It’s a bit more generous than Sauternes with much more intrigue. Delish!

Chateau Lafon, Sauternes 2016 Half bottle 37.5cl

Wonderful Sauternes! 2016 was affected by frost in spring to which they have lost 45% of the “usual” volume, hence the concentration of the vintage. (But there was an equivalent quantity of Botrytis on both 2015 and 2016 at harvest time) The wine is aged 12 months in oak barrels handed down from Yquem. The winemaker, Olivier Fauthoux, learned viticulture and winemaking at “l’Ecole de la Tour Blanche” in Sauternes and started working for his father who himself learned form his father and grandfather etc.. It’s the fourth generation at Chateau Lafon but the family made wines in the area before for a very long time. He passes through the vineyards four times to get the grapes and 20% of them come from the enclave D’Yquem. The rest is mostly comes from vineyards next to Chateau Rieussec. 13.5%

Mullineux Family Straw Wine 2017 (37.5cl)

A five-star wine in Platter’s, South Africa’s leading wine guide, a 97-pointer for Wine Advocate in the US, this is a bar-setting South African sweet wine of quite outstanding depth and length. The grapes are dried outside in the shade until they are half raisined, concentrating flavours, acidity and sugar into a super intense, but balanced treat. Fermentation is in old French barrels with indigenous yeasts and can last up to a year. The naturally high acid in Chenin Blanc gives this wine great lift and focus. A vinous marvel.
