Out of the single vineyard series, the Schist has the most structure to it. Red and black fruit, fynbos and lavender plus a touch of white pepper on the nose. Complex aromas of dried apricot and citrus rind with hints of vanilla. The palate is rich and full, but is defined by a central core of fresh acidity. This balances the sweetness and layers of fresh fruit and lees allowing the wine to finish neatly with a lingering zing.
The 2013 exudes succulent, spiced aromas on the nose. Moringa flowers, crystallised stem ginger, baked apricots and frangipani. The palate is bold yet silky smooth – honeyed, with some baking spice, tarte tatin and vanilla . It will only take on more of a profile with time.
Nothing short of revelatory, Adi Badenhorst has taken vermouth to new frontiers with this remarkable aromatised fortified brew. Drawing from recipes dating back a century, this is spicy, aromatic, intense, and remarkable. Drink on the rocks with a twist, or with Adi's incredible Swaan tonic. "It's really really good stuff...
