A Beast in Ballet Shoes - Very special Portuguese red - *48 hours price*

“Why spend a lifetime trying to blend in, when you were born to stand out?”

The wine is made by the well-travelled, laid-back, surfer, Antonio Macanita, who brings a flair and open-minded approach to Portuguese winemaking challenging the norm by seeking grapes from forgotten hillsides in forgotten territories.  He cut his teeth at Rudd in Napa; D’Arenberg in Australia; and Lynch Bages in Bordeaux. Together with his sister, he is a true trailblazer in Portugal, making several ranges of fantastic wines from various regions around the country. In addition to his own stunning wines, Antonio is consulting at 13 other wineries.

Palpite Tint0 Reserva 2015

Alentejo | Cabernet Sauvignon, Aragonez (Tempranillo), Touriga Nacional | ABV: 14.5%

If you like you're full-bodied reds this is one for your for your virtual shopping basket. Rich in body, smooth in texture, with concentrated, oak-spiced dark fruits of on nose and palate ans subtle herbal and floral (violets) notes. Ripe and powerful on the palate but well-rounded and supple. The cab gives it some freshness in the mid-palate, but you can still get a sense of the other two varieties - the herbal, liquorice notes of the Touriga, the inky depth and spiciness of the Aragonez. Generous, mouth-filling with a long, long finish.

Drink with:

Slow-roasted shoulder of lamb (drooling now...). Perhaps with roasted Mediterranean vegetables (swimming in garlic) and a black olive tapedade. Woo haa.

How it's made:

Fruit from specially selected vineyards in Alentejo, southern Portugal. Soils are predominantly infertile rocky schist, so naturally low-yielding, producing concentrated, flavour-packed fruit. In the cellar, wild yeast fermentation in a combination of temperature-controlled steel tanks and large oak vats is followed by three weeks of post-fermentation maceration to extract further colour and soften the tannins. The wine was then matured in French oak barrels for 16 months.
