'Thrilling, utterly captivating wines'

The new 2013 releases from Corino

Barolo Renato Corino, La Morra 2013

Renato Corino Barolo Arborina 2013

Barolo Rocche dell Annunziata Renato Corino 2013

The quality in Barolo has never been higher, and it’s the same for Renato Corino. What’s coming from his cellar is getting better and better, and that’s incredibly exciting as I’ve just been drinking some 2005s of his recently as well as a couple of 07s and 08s and they’ve been absolutely stunning, and genuinely more enjoyable to drink compared to those from other producers I’ve tried them alongside, which cost twice the price. We’ve found Corino’s wines selling faster again, post recession, as people worldwide realise this is a source of top class Barolo at a very fair price. It’s well deserved as Corino has barely moved his prices in the past 10 years. I love these 2013s, which are so well balanced, with finesse. They promise a good long future with a good deal of complexity evolving over the years.

I’ve been going to Barolo since 1993. Back then there were half a dozen very good producers. Now there are  a few dozen. But in my humble opinion Renato Corino’s village Barolo, as has also often been stated by the press, is about the best of any for the price in all of Barolo.

Corino's ‘crus’, ‘Arborina’ and ‘Rocche’, while more expensive, are two thirds to half the price of bolder producers who have chosen over the years to charge more. These are brilliant wines, which will show the beauty of Barolo in all its glory in years to come.
