2 x Capolemole Rosso, Marco Carpineti 2013

Fabulously Italian, this is sheer joy. It’s also terrific value. A bit like Barolo but easier on the palate. It’s one of Southern Italy’s best Italian reds: heather, violets and cherries drift with cranberries and a touch of plum; the palate is serious and contemplative with darker, more plummy fruit, with branches and leaves of wild herbs stitched beautifully throughout. Good with pasta, pizza and meats.

2 x Ruche Bric d' Bianc, Ferraris, Piedmont 2015

A palate that reads like a fancy cocktail: blueberry, blackberry, red cherry, cranberry are layered with juniper, dried rosemary & lavender, thyme and rosehip. This delicious fruit salad is grounded by white pepper, sour cherry, dried cherry and dried fig. So elevated, light and elegant, bright and perfumed and crisp and floral on the palate.

2 x Nebbiolo "Il Crutin" Manzone, Monforte d'Alba 2013

Il Crutin is made with 100% Nebbiolo sourced from vines of the Castelletto and Gramolere vineyards in Monforte d’Alba. Because the winery has no ‘minor’ vineyards to use for an entry-level, approachable nebbiolo, the family decided to declassify parts of the Castelletto and Gremolere vineyard to make il Crutin. Il Crutin (‘small cellar’ in Piedmontese dialect) is an old house located on the Gremolere hill: hand-carved in the rock in the 1800’s, purchased by Giovanni Manzone in 2000. Dark plums, coffee beans and aniseed. Cranberries with a bit of leather and a long dry finish, with a berry tinted finish.

2 x Valpolicella Monte Santoccio Nicola Ferrari 2013

Made by a former assistant winemaker to legendary Quintarelli, Nicola Ferrari brings all his skill and knowledge of producing some of the finest Amarones to this beautifully crafted Valpolicella. Now with 4 years bottle age, it’s a refined and elegant style of Valpol that’s drinking very nicely at the moment and over the next 6 months. Very pleasant with pasta and tomato-based dishes.

2 x Dolcetto d'Alba Virna di Borgogno Virna 2014

I make no great claims about this wine, but it’s very nicely made, silky and tasty and does what it should. Some producers try too hard to make substantial Dolcetto, but miss the charm and the everyday nature of the grape when done well. Very pleasant with pasta and for easy drinking with food
