Mix 12 of Antonio Macanita's Wines

People often ask me what’s the next up and coming wine country or region. Of course you can say places like Bulgaria or Hungary – but they still have quite a few years to go before then can really make an impact in the market, whereas Portugal is the place to buy and no-one is leading the pack quite like Antonio Macanita. His innovative and pioneering style is changing the way we view Portuguese grape varieties and none more so than in this phenomenally delicious take on Touriga Nacional. This is a chance to taste a movement in its infancy before the wave rises up and the market is awash with half-baked, over priced imitations. Only the real thing could taste this good and only be £15.80! And if you really fancy sinking your teeth into what Mr Macanita can do then try a mixed case of this with his Palpite Branco, our white wine of the year in 2016.

6 x A Touriga Vai Nua Fitapreta 2016

"Winemaker António Maçanita knows what he is doing and I feel that he might change the paradigm for Touriga Nacional, because this rose petal, fresh blood and liquorice-scented wine is sheer heaven. It is what Nosferatu would drink before a night of light slaughter and he was a creature of exquisite taste." - Matthew Jukes, Money Week

6 x Palpite Branco Reserva Fitapreta, Alentejano 2015

The aroma makes you think of top white Burgundy; it’s incredibly good with mineral purity and a wonderful top note; a brightness you get from a certain breed of white winemaker who are followers of ‘line’ in their wine – a core – around which other elements sit. It is very Burgundian, and yet there is an intriguing exotic aroma; char-grilled pineapple, roasted peaches and fresh lemon lead with a chorus of vanilla, spice and melting butter. The palate continues this tune with bright acidity, but tasty like a cox’s apple balancing the clotted cream and beurre noisette from the very well-judged oak. Citrus and fresh pineapple leave a harmonious and clean, very long finish. It’s a wine you can chew a bit, with an excellent acidity on the finish that carries the fruit flavour all the way to the long finish that makes you want to sip it over and over. This is really, really good. Grapes 58% Arinto, 24% Verdelho, 18% Antão Vaz. Only 300 cases produced
